Why I love what I do

When I was doing my undergraduate work at UConn, I lived in a house with three students seeking their masters in puppetry and a painter. As the only non-artist, my relationship with these women was one of mutual curiosity. The puppetry artists explained that their work was most rewarding because of the variety of skills necessary for a successful show: writing, acting, sculpture, painting, set construction, etc. At a time when I couldn’t decided whether to enter journalism school or pursue my PhD in virology, I was jealous of their success in finding a medium that rewarded their varied interests.

Today I am happier than I have ever been with my medium. I have found my puppetry. By working on websites, I can write, design, or code - and put both sides of my brain to use.

Education

I am currently the Assistant Director of Communications and Web Technologies for the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. I spend most of my time building websites and collaboration tools for this fascinating organization, located above a Mexican restaurant.

I received my Master of Science in Science Writing from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005.

I received my Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut in Molecular and Cellular Biology and second major in English in 2003.

I grew up and went to high school in Biddeford (the Biddo), Maine.
